Truth Or Dare With Danny Trejo

From the iconic ‘stache to the tattoos to the kickass action sequences, Danny Trejo is one of the most iconic actors in films and television today. And behind his legendary performances as the go-to tough guy and his enormous resume of film credits is a pretty cool guy with a truly impressive career and history.

So we figured the best way to get to know more about the Latino action legend and OG badass is a game of truth or dare! Let’s play a quick game of truth or dare with fun facts about Danny Trejo to really get to know the man, the myth, and the legend behind those iconic movie scenes.

TRUTH: How many restaurants does Danny own?

Danny isn’t just a Hollywood great -- he’s also the proud owner of several restaurants! The OG is Trejo’s Tacos in Los Angeles, which opened up in 2016 (and if you’re a real fan, you can rep it with this classic Trejo’s Tacos T-Shirt). He also opened Trejo’s Cantina and Trejo’s Coffee & Donuts in 2017, so you can get a whopping serving of Danny’s favorite flavors no matter what kind of food or beverage you’re craving.

DARE: Eat a spoonful of Trejo’s Hot Sauce.

If you’ve ever been to a Trejo’s Taco location, you know that the hot sauce is a must. In fact, Danny loves hot sauce so much that he’s releasing a new flavor every year that kicks just as hard as the man himself! The 2022 version is a Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Pepper that adds a sweet, smoky, and spicy kick on everything from eggs to tacos -- but your mission today is to eat it straight up. Good luck and make sure to have some milk handy nearby to soothe the burn.

TRUTH: Name movies that Danny performs in which his character is named after a knife?

If you’re a big fan of Danny Trejo’s most iconic movies, you might have noticed a pattern: his characters are named after knives in a ton of them. Some characters he’s played that are named after these razor-sharp tools include:

  • Navajas in Desperado
  • Razor Charlie in From Dusk Till Dawn
  • Machete in the Spy Kids movies and Machete
  • Cuchillo in Predators

So while you’re slicing and dicing in your own kitchen, pay homage to his sharpest characters with a Chef’s Apron featuring the OG himself.

DARE: Put together the loudest, most colorful outfit you can and top it off with a colorful hat.

If you really want to grab everyone’s attention with a dare, head out in the most color-clashing top and pants you own, then top it off with this multi-colored Parallel Lines Baseball Hat featuring a rubber Trejo’s Tacos logo. Wear it loud and proud out in public and get ready to have all eyes on you!

TRUTH: How old was Danny when he started his film career?

33! While he was working as a youth drug counselor in the 1980s, Trejo visited the set of the independent film Runaway Train and was recognized by Edward Bunker, the film’s screenwriter who was also a former convict who had served time with Trejo in San Quentin. Bunker remembered Trejo’s accomplishments as a lightweight and welterweight boxing champion in San Quentin and helped secure him the role as a supporting character -- and the rest was history.

Other notable accomplishments while he was in San Quentin includes receiving his high-school diploma and joining a 12-step program and becoming sober! But that didn’t stop Danny from starting a successful Cantina restaurant, and now you can try some of the recipes in Trejo’s Cantina Cookbook (signed by the man himself!) at home.

DARE: Pull an all-nighter to watch Trejo’s most iconic films!

It’s no secret: Danny is in a lot of movies. In fact, on average, he’s starred in at least four films every single year since the 90s! That means that there are a ton of options to choose from when you’re pulling your all-nighter, and the action and laughs are probably enough to keep you going on their own from dusk ‘til dawn. But in case you need a little extra juice: grind up some of Trejo’s House Blend Whole Coffee 3-Pack and brew a couple of cups of strong, delicious coffee from the comfort of your own home. It’s the same coffee that’s served up in all of Danny’s Coffee & Donut shops, so you know it’s going to be good!
